North Dene Studio

Our Design & Build Studio in Lowfell is nearing completion and is set to be ready for fit-out early 2025.

As a leading architectural firm near Newcastle, we are proud to offer this space as a tangible example of our contemporary design approach and ethos.

The North Dene Studio is a platform for innovation and collaboration. It provides an opportunity for clients to explore architectural materials and detailing first-hand. Additionally, it serves as a venue for regular design workshops and reviews, fostering creativity and engagement.

This studio exemplifies high-quality architecture achieved on a limited budget. The exterior features charred ash cladding and zinc standing seam panels. Glazed sliding doors open onto block-paved and timber-decked terraces, offering a seamless connection to the surrounding garden.

The design of the studio is a study in contrasts. It presents as a smooth, dark box that subtly juxtaposes the original sandstone walls of Northdene House, a locally listed 18th-century villa.

Broomside

We recently developed concept design proposals for a new orangery extension in Co Durham that provides a sympathetic addition to the existing stable wing whilst also providing an outdoor living space, kitchen and fireplace.

Our appointment included preparing photomontage studies / visualisations to explore materiality and development form options cognisant of the the wider farm holding and landscape setting of the surrounding greenbelt.

The Croft

A low-scale dwelling with clean modern lines, comprising natural sandstone and muted timber tones to achieve a tactile and visually recessive design response to the garden and local village settlement.

The new home is constructed using timber frame with a super insulated, air-tight fabric. Steel is used to form a cantilevered return to the eastern gable end forming a seamless glass to glass corner window.
