A blend of traditional and modern family living for six stately residences completed late 2023 / early 2024 in Northumberland.
The homes comprise a L-shape plan configuration with traditional, dual pitched slate roofs, rustic sandstone walls complimented with zinc clad orangeries and entrance porticoes.
The dwellings create private courtyards, optimise aspect and orientation to create place, provide character and identity to this edge of settlement development.
We are pleased to have recently completed the design and build of a new orangery extension in Co Durham, completed at Broomside farm late 2023.
The design provides a sympathetic addition to the existing stable wing providing an outdoor living space, kitchen and fireplace.
We were appointed in 2023 to secure planning approval for twelve new homes near Hamsterley woods in the north east of England.
Further to our Reserved Matters planning approval we are looking forward to these homes coming to market in 2024.

In summer 2021 we secured planning consent for our landmark design for 169 PRS apartments.
The design employed a stepped building form which punctuates a primary urban threshold into Newcastle’s up and coming Helix Quarter.
The rich metallic envelope features an ordered fenestration grid providing excellent aspect and natural light for the living spaces. The copper façade floats above a solid masonry plinth and active ground floor uses which bring life to the street.
Our proposals reinvent the site and original structure formerly occupied by the Northern Sinfonia Orchestra.
A distinctive architectural expression is created which extends vertically through a stepping roof form; a contextual piece that mediates scale and employs an industrial aesthetic to enhance urban character along the Ouseburn.

In 2021, the studio obtained planning permission for conversion of an existing stone built granary and metal clad outbuilding to two new holiday let dwellings on a rural small holding south of Lowick, Northumberland.
Our architectural objective was simple: to great sensual space, where quality of light, materials and proportions are the essential ingredients.
The design, which employs corten steel and black profiled cladding sheets to compliment the existing sandstone walls and slate roof of the granary was completed in autumn 2023.

A contextual scheme of four stone dwellings arranged about a semi-private courtyard with extended views into the countryside. Modern detailing with zinc dormers and feature double height bays articulate the rural forms.
Our rural typologies continue to evolve in Northumberland. The Longhouse presents a linear, home which presents a double height living space and “room in roof” bedroom accommodation over.
The exterior is clad using charred ash cladding and black slate which provides a visually recessive design solution to help mitigate visual impact.
The rustic materials are continued through into the interiors to provide character and a unique sense of home.
In 2021 we developed concept designs for two contemporary cabin typologies for launch in the European and Canadian markets.
Natural, sustainable materials are used in these carbon neutral homes which can be deployed “Off Grid” to get away from the city grind.
Our client asked for a modern retreat and flexible cabin typology.
We responded with a dynamic, elevated living space executed with a crisp anthracite and cedar wrap.

A beautiful former agricultural site located on a prominent ridge just south of Darras Hall, Ponteland with northerly views towards the Cheviots.
Our proposals comprise the conversion of a milking parlour, granary, cart shed, bothy and farmhouse into four new dwellings.

The L-shaped plan comprises a double height living wing with vaulted ceilings which extend out into deep overhanging eaves that shelter an outdoor firepit and BBQ terrace.
A two bedroom “Carriage House” is situated north of the main home to complete the estate.
